Up to now, all production concepts for VIG are based on an edge seal made of solder glass. This solder glass edge seal is produced at high temperatures and results in a very stiff connection between the two glass panes. With this solder glass edge seal, temperature differences on building facades (e.g. warm on the inside, cold on the outside) lead to high stress, thus limiting the glazing size and the achievable insulation properties. Due to the high production temperatures, the use of tempered glass is also prevented.
VIG products with this solder glass edge seal are commercially available.
